Assignments
Assignment 1 (Due 2/16)
Imagine a woman who desires to remain in a fundamentalist patriarchal society, and does so remain. Is it right to say that she has negative freedom? Under what, if any, conditions would she have positive freedom?
Assignment 2 (Due 3/29)
Scenario: A man is in a room with a child. The man does not know the child, nor does the man bear any natural or legal relation to the child. The man has some food, much more than he can eat himself. It is obvious from the child’s appearance that she has not eaten recently and is very hungry.
What is the extent of the man’s obligation? Does the child have a right to some of the man’s food? How would Rawls and Nozick approach this question?
